If you’re a cosplayer that’s new to TikTok, you may be wondering what type of videos you should do. How do you 'succees' on this app? Is there a specific guideline you need to follow? How do you come up with video content?
At least, there are 10 TikTok Cosplay Ideas you should try, if you don't ever done it! Hopefully by creating videos with some of these ideas, and you will be getting viewers in no time!
1. RE-ENACTING A MEMORABLE SCENE
Re-creating a scene from something like Genshin, it would probably go viral on TikTok! Cosplayer: mingmihoo.
One of the best ways to get viewership is by simply doing a memorable scene from an anime, video game, movie, etc. For example, if there was a fight scene in an anime you vividly remember, you should not only do the exact same thing on TikTok, but also quote the character as well!
People love reminders of memorable scenes from a fandom. And by doing so in cosplay and on TikTok, you’ll get lots of love for it!
2. RANDOM SKITS
Many users on TikTok make awesome videos based on random stuff that’s relatable to the user. An example is something like 'cosplaying at an anime convention be like' and then you show the struggles of walking around the convention.
TikTok is all about creativity, and you can totally express your creativity through short videos on TikTok. So if you have a random cosplay skit idea, you can totally create one on TikTok and it will probably do well if it’s fun and entertaining.
3. VIRAL TRENDS
Like many other social media apps, the thing that is going viral at the moment is also the thing that will get the most attention and engagement online. And with cosplay, that is not exception. So if you want to garner the most attention, you should pay attention to what’s hot and trendy at the moment. That could be:
- The most popular characters to cosplay at the moment
- Viral audio
- TikTok trends themselves (e.g. that character from Stranger Things snapping their fingers)
- By cashing in on a viral trend, you can get some nice engagement from TikTok!
4. COSPLAY TUTORIALS
Doing cosplay tutorials on TikTok can be popular. Photo by silent_pr1ncess.
If you have some really good skills in cosplay, you can share your wisdom on TikTok by making short cosplay tutorial videos! I do know a few cosplayers that create videos just specifically for cosplay DIY or cosplay makeup and it works really well.
By teaching other cosplayers how to cosplay and make their own stuff, you’ll rake in the viewers on the app.
5. SHORT-FORM VIDEOS OF A LONGER VIDEO
This one is for those who already make long videos either on YouTube or other platforms. I know a lot of people who break up their full videos and post them on TikTok into bite size pieces! Perhaps not the full video, but definitely the most interesting and most important parts of the video.
So if you are already making long cosplay videos such as commentary or tutorials, you can break it into pieces, post them on the TikTok app, and schedule then so it comes out in batches.
6. INSPIRATIONAL CONTENT
Cosplaying is an intricate hobby that a lot of us are emotionally involved in. While a lot of cosplay videos on TikTok are fun and entertaining, some of them can also be inspirational.
Case in point; I know of a cosplayer who is physically disabled. They create wonderfully motivating and helpful TikTok videos for those who are also physically disabled or challenged.
7. COSPLAY SHOWCASE
While photo apps such as Instagram are going to be different from TikTok, there can be some similarities. One thing that can be similar is simply showing off your cosplay! Maybe add a little music from the series you’re cosplaying from to make it more interesting.
8. PERSONAL VIDEOS OF YOURSELF
Much like my own Instagram account, your TikTok doesn’t exclusively have to be only cosplay. You can also share some personal videos of yourself from time to time. People appreciate following someone who is genuine that lives a life similar to theirs.
So you can share stuff like your travel videos, your favorite restaurants, your favorite products, etc. A little personal showcase of yourself on TikTok is never a bad thing.
9. COSPLAY WORK-IN-PROGRESS
Not only can you show off some of the cosplays, but also your work-in-progress. Just like on IG where you show pieces of your cosplay being completed one by one, you can do the same on TikTok. Or if you are working on a cosplay prop, you can show your viewers the progress on that as well.
Honestly, unless you’re trying to become a professional cosplayer and using TikTok as marketing, you don’t really need to follow any strict guidelines for videos. You can make random cosplay videos. That’s what I do. After all, cosplaying is all about having fun. So if you think of something cool for a video, just try it out on the app.
