2023 Tech Predictions: Holographic, Metaverse and Rollable Phones

In 2022, we have witnessed so many technological innovations that have colored the business world. Starting from the ChatGPT feature, flip phones, to artificial intelligence.

Now, at the beginning of 2023, many are starting to predict things that could become technology trends this year, or in the following years. We also have several technology options worth considering, including:

1. Holographic Technology

The concept of holographic technology has been known a while ago, and was previously used in cinematic screens to make things appear in real time, even they are exist in across continents. This has become increasingly important in a hybrid workplace.

For presentations, product launches or meetings, augmented and mixed reality will offer new ways for people to communicate via life-size 'holograms' that can interact with virtual objects (for example, to showcase new prototypes).

2. Rollable Screen in Laptops and Smartphones

It is already started since last year, and will be inevitably become increasing popular this year. Using this folding / rolling screens, users can do multi-tasking, and get a bigger screen in a more compact form. They can also 'extend' or 'stretch' the phone as they wish.

It is predicted that the Metaverse in 2023 will become a reality. Interestingly, the development of metaverse technology will be triggered by the world of work/business, not the world of games.
More than half of adults working in Singapore believe their office has the expertise to enable work to be done in the metaverse. This is called the Enterprise Metaverse. Instead of a game simulator, the metaverse will become a job simulator.

4. Shopping with AI

In the near future, AI servers can track goods in stores, increase margins, and maintain inventory. When a customer 'clicks and buys', the AI ​​camera will watch until checkout. Opportunities for cross-selling and digital signage can be edited for specific audiences, providing up-to-the-minute information to motivate consumers, such as alerting them to when stocks are running low.

Augmented reality (AR) is also enhancing the retail experience. In homeware, a consumer can upload an image of their room and redecorate it using AR to view different colour schemes and choose suitable accessories, suggested by computers. Similarly, in apparel, a consumer can upload their image to "try on" clothes and AI can match co-ordinating accessories with the outfit, not only cross-selling but also providing the customer with a styling service.

5. Smart City System

Smart cameras will help manage congestion in smart cities, reducing pollution and road accidents. A smart city uses information and communication technology (ICT) to improve operational efficiency, share information with the public and provide a better quality of government service and citizen welfare.

The main goal of a smart city is to optimise city functions and promote economic growth while also improving the quality of life for citizens by using smart technologies and data analysis. The value lies in how this technology is used rather than simply how much technology is available.
