In essence, as long as it doesn't violate ethics and propriety, you are free to cosplay with a variety of conveniences. Unfortunately, some of the following unwritten rules seem to appear without clarity and lead to misunderstandings for people who want to be involved in the world of cosplay.

You've probably heard of some of them, and what do you think? True of False?

1. You Can Cosplay Whoever You Want!

Actually, it's not without limitations, but you still have to be very careful and don't intentionally cause personal or group anger.

For example, blackening skin color when cosplaying can cause feelings of displeasure or offend others. Our advice is stay away from the idea of cosplaying characters who have stereotypes of certain tribes or regions.

2. You Have To Be Skinny In Order To Cosplay

It's clearly a mistake because anyone with any body shape can and can cosplay! Despite the fact that many people still think that a good cosplayer must be slim. This is natural because people are more often exposed to cosplayers who are beautiful and well-proportioned!

There's nothing wrong with being a slender cosplayer, but actually, cosplayers can come from a variety of backgrounds and sizes. Don’t let that stop you from cosplaying.

3. Cosplay Is Not Consent

For this rule, we believe it's very TRUE! And could be one of the most important rules in the cosplay world.

So, if someone is doing a bikini cosplay, it doesn’t mean you can snap photos of them without asking for permission, even catcall them or start touching them.

Cosplay is not consent is a pretty big topic. To simplify things, when it comes to interacting with a cosplayes, always ask for permission first.

4. Never Ask A Photo With Cosplayer While Eating / Drinking

A lot of cosplayers don't really appreciate it when you ask for their photo while they're sitting down and eating, or drinking.

Most cosplayers are more than happy to pose for a photo for you! Nothing feels more fulfilling for a cosplayer than for someone to ask for their photo; it validates their costume and/or crafting work.

However, there are times where you should NOT ask for a photo. Just wait until the cosplayer is back on the convention floor to take their photo.

5. Your Cosplay Has To Be Accurate

This is also FALSE rules because cosplay is for all ethnicity and backgrounds!

No matter what race or ethnicity you are, you have the freedom to cosplay a variety of characters. You just need to be careful to not cosplay something offensive.

6. Never Compliment A Cosplayer By Making Fun Another Cosplayer

There probably many cosplayers have done K/DA cosplay, yet we don't have to compare them all.

If you're going to complement a cosplayer, don't do so at the expense of others. Because you never know who you end up hurting when you insult others. For example, maybe that other Elsa cosplayer is her best friend.

The next time you want to give praise to a cosplayer, just skip the need to bring others down at the same time.

7. You Have To Know The Character and The Fandom

We can be sure that there will be lot of Genshin Impact cosplayers that have never played the game. And that's totally okay.

Some people cosplay certain characters because they're popular, while others want to cash in on that cosplay hype. Everyone has their own reasons for cosplaying a certain character, and being a hardcore fan of the series may not be one of them. It’s okay, you don’t have to be.

8. Must Be Sexy Cosplay and Show Some Skin

You don't have to wear any sexy cosplays to become a successful and popular cosplayer.

Sexy cosplay will for sure get more attention and probably more likes. But you can still be a wonderful cosplayer with many followers/likes without having to do sexy cosplays.

Just know that if you don't feel comfortable showing some skin, you don't have to.

9. Only Women Can Cosplay Well

It doesn't matter what gender you are. You have the capability to do amazing cosplays!

We get bombarded with so many beautiful female cosplayers, that we may forget that are also plenty of other great cosplayers who don't fit this category.

There are so many awesome cosplayers that are not female or identify as a female.

10. Cosplaying is Supposed to be FUN!

What's the point of cosplaying if you don't have fun? I believe that we must agree on this rule as TRUE indeed!

It's not cosplaying if it ain't fun. Enough said hehe..peace yo :)
