Bawor Knight, Futuristic Cosplay of Local Hero from Banyumas

Starting just as a hobby, Heri Setiawan (31) a resident of Linggasari Village, Kembaran District, Banyumas Regency, made a costume player (cosplay) with the theme Bawor Knight.

Bawor is one of the iconic characters from a traditional puppet show in Banyumas. The local hero was then being made into a more futuristic figure and named the Bawor Knight.

"I want to make a cosplay of the Banyumas local hero icon. Bawor is the popular icon in Banyumas people," said Heri, in his statement to Radar Banyumas. "I want to make the Bawor with a concept of Tokusatsu."

The Bawor Knight cosplay was made without losing his true identity. He still puts the topknot, round eyes, and also wearing Batik Kawung as the hallmarks of Bawor. The whole process took approximately one month.

The cosplay itself has a special place in his heart. He even admitted that his work was a gift for the 451st anniversary of Banyumas Regency this year.

In the future, Heri is also planning to make a short movie or YouTube series that will tell the life journey of the original Bawor himself.

"The series (on YouTube - red) hopefully will be published next month," added by Heri, on TribunBanyumas (03/13). "There should be 15 episodes with a duration of 10 minutes for each episode in the Bawor's YouTube series."

Heri is working them all by himself which includes the making of cosplay, writing the plot and story, also edit the series.

"The limited fund becomes a major factor. But, I will go all the way to make them in good quality," explained Heri. "By making the Bawor Knight cosplay, buying the PC and the stabilizer, I had already spent almost 8.7 million Rupiah."

To that matter, he opens up the chance of collaboration with anyone. The YouTube series for the Bawor Knight will be made as to the showcase for his creation. He has no intention to get money. Even if there is, he considers it as a bonus. His mission is to introduce the local hero, Bawor to younger kids.

The main plot of the series will have a baseline of a prophecy. He said there will be a Demon King who has been sealed for 1,000 years. And, based on a prophecy, this year the demon will rise again. The main villain for the Bawor Knight is called Lord Belis.
