Just a week ago, the Indonesian cosplay world was excited by the creations of the citizens of Ciasem who made the first and tallest replica of the Giant Gundam in Indonesia. Now, an honorary teacher from an elementary school in the Bogor area has an interesting idea to dress up a cute cat to make it even more adorable with lots of cool cosplay options!
The figure of this honorary teacher is Fredi Lugina Priadi (40 years old) from Jampang Village, Kemang District, Bogor. Holds a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing Economics from the University of Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. HAMKA, he teaches at SDN Jampang 01, and while spending his spare time he opens convection at his home.
Running two professions at once is not easy, Fredi was forced to give up his status as an honorary teacher to focus on his convection. He found a new passion after his innovation to make cosplay-style costumes but specifically for cats began to be in demand by many people and went viral overseas.
"If you become an honorary (teacher) the income is very minimal, especially in elementary school. I have taught for approximately five years as a class teacher," said Fredi, as quoted from his interview with Wolipop. "Last November, I decided to quit. I prefer to be an entrepreneur."
Initially, Fredi's convection business only produced school and employee uniforms. Then, in 2018, he was also moved to make a variety of special animal clothes.
"In 2017, I still made simple conventional models like dresses, t-shirts, shirts, or sweater hoodies, like that," he added. "The following year, my older brother suggested trying to make a cosplay outfit for cats, which wear hands."
The idea was not immediately appreciated by the public, even his friends who knew Fredi's educational background doubted the idea. However, he did not budge and continued to run the cosplay business for this cat until finally, his creations went viral overseas. Many orders come from countries in Asia and America.
"The first viral one was the hijab model, it was on the coconut website. I never thought that my work would be picked up by an external site, and not from within the country. I know it went viral around the middle of last month," said Fredi in a moved tone (wolipop, 13 December).
His most ordered Cat Cosplays are those about superhero characters or characterizing a particular profession. These cat clothes are priced from Rp. 38 thousand to Rp. 1.5 million. Of course, the higher the difficulty of the costume design determines the price.
In the process of making it, Fredi usually spends about an hour for one cat cosplay. So, every day, he can produce approximately 10 clothes of the same style.
"My income is full from this cat cosplay. Now it's more than enough, around IDR 2.2 million - IDR 3 million. Because I still manage it myself. This is a family business; me, my wife, and my sister. -people," he said closing the interview.
From Fredi's story, we can learn that there is nothing wrong with trying new things with all the challenges and obstacles that always make you hesitate at the beginning. As long as you can stay focused and do it with your heart, the results will be good. Of course with the support of the closest people who are always there in the most difficult times.
